Dallas Model Photographer – Questions and Answers
What is a Comp Card?
Short for Composite Card, they come under many different names (zed card, sed card) but they all mean the same thing. A comp card is like a business card for models, actors, singers and anyone else in the visual media industry. Between 3 and 5 images are typical. Your photographer will help you choose what sort of photos you need.
Do I need a Comp Card?
You do if you want to get hired. It’s that simple. Do people make their own? Of course. The real question is, do those people get hired? You decide. Trying to get hired by sending a huge portfolio book WILL NOT WORK. The people who hire models simply don’t have time to look through every massive portfolio that comes through the door. Nor do they have anywhere to keep them all. But, they can, and will look at a comp card and make a decision to keep or throw it away right then.
Is a comp card made from Microsoft paint going to get you that $1000 modeling gig?
Doubtful.
Can I use a comp card shoot to expand my portfolio?
Of course. Many models update their portfolio this way. There IS a use for portfolios and they need to be good. They just aren’t meant as a “cold call” tool.
What’s the difference between a comp card shoot and a shoot that is for singers or promotional materials?
Generally the difference is the price and the wording in the licensing contract. A comp card isn’t exactly like a web site or promotional posters. Anything used for a commercial purpose is going to have an additional fee. Comp cards photo shoots are only meant for comp card purposes.
I’m only 17, can I have a model shoot?
Of course. A parent or legal guardian will have to sign your licensing contract, but after that, we can get down to business.
I’m not a professional.Can I still schedule a photo shoot?
Definitely. While the prices remain generally the same, there is a little different package of goodies that is more fitting for you. We’ll go over all of that when you submit your project to us using the forms on the right side of this page.
